What a Vision Jet charter costs
No published hourly rate, because an hourly rate is not what you pay. Here is the structure behind the number instead.
We do not publish an hourly rate, and we would encourage scepticism toward operators who do. A headline hourly figure omits repositioning, fuel surcharges, federal excise tax, landing and handling fees, overnight charges, and de-icing — which is how a quoted rate becomes an invoice that surprises people. The number that matters is the one at the bottom.
What we publish instead is the structure. A Halcyon quote is a single all-in figure for the trip as described: flight time both ways, positioning if the aircraft is not already where you are, fuel, federal excise tax, landing and handling at both fields, and crew costs. If your plan changes and the price changes, we tell you what changed and by how much.
The single largest variable is positioning. If the aircraft is already near your departure field, you pay for your legs. If it has to fly two hours empty to reach you, that flying is real and somebody pays for it. We will tell you when positioning is driving your quote, and sometimes we will suggest a different departure airport or a different day that removes it entirely.
The second variable is the calendar. Quarter and year end, major industry conferences, and the weeks around big sporting events compress demand into narrow windows. Those dates cost more everywhere, from every operator, and we would rather say so plainly than pretend our pricing is season-blind.
Cost drivers
What moves the number
In rough order of impact on a typical quote.
- Block time
- The dominant cost on any leg. Measured from taxi out to shutdown, not from wheels-up — which is why a short hop is proportionally more expensive per nautical mile than a long one.
- Positioning
- Empty legs flown to reach you or to return the aircraft to base. Often the difference between a good price and a poor one, and the easiest thing for us to help you avoid.
- Date and season
- Quarter end, conference weeks, and event dates price higher because demand is genuinely concentrated then. A midweek leg in a quiet month is materially cheaper for exactly the same flying.
- Airport fees
- Landing and handling vary widely by field. A large metropolitan airport charges considerably more than a quiet industrial reliever, and ramp fees at some fields are substantial.
- Overnights
- If the aircraft and crew stay with you rather than returning to base, there is a daily cost. On a two-night trip it is often cheaper to have the aircraft reposition and come back for you.
- De-icing
- A winter reality at northern and mountain fields, billed at cost. We flag it as a possibility on winter quotes rather than adding it silently afterwards.
Questions
Charter pricing
How much does it cost to charter a Cirrus Vision Jet?
It depends principally on block time and positioning, so a single figure would be misleading. As a structural matter, the Vision Jet is the least expensive jet to charter per hour in the private-jet market because it has one engine rather than two — that is the core of its economic argument. Send us a specific trip and you will have an all-in number within the hour during business hours.
Is a Vision Jet cheaper than a Phenom 100 or Citation M2?
Materially, yes, on a per-hour basis — one engine burns considerably less fuel than two and costs less to maintain. Those aircraft are faster and carry more, so on a long leg with six passengers they may be the better value. On a 400 nm leg with four people, the Vision Jet usually wins on both cost and airport access.
What is included in a Halcyon quote?
Flight time, positioning, fuel, federal excise tax, landing and handling fees at both fields, and crew costs. De-icing and any airport-specific charges outside our control are identified in advance where they apply. There are no baggage fees.
Do you charge for the empty return leg?
If the aircraft returns to base without you, that flying has to be paid for by someone. We tell you clearly whether your quote includes positioning and what it costs, and we will suggest alternatives — a different departure field, a different day — where they would reduce it.
Is a jet card cheaper than on-demand charter?
It buys rate certainty and availability, not a discount in every case. If you fly a handful of times a year, on-demand is usually the better economics. If you fly regularly and value guaranteed access on short notice, a card is worth the commitment.
